Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss our approach to face detection
and recognition. This approach incorporates three successive stages of
machine learning: learning model structure (graphical model
connectivity among the input variables), learning features (vector
quantization at the nodes of the graph), and learning the classifier
(maximum margin estimation of a classifier represented over the
graphical model). Google incorporate this technology into several
products including Face Unlock and the Google Play Movies app for
identifying actors. Bio: Dr. Henry Schneiderman was a founder and CEO of Pittsburgh Pattern Recognition (PittPatt), a face recognition technology company he spun off from Carnegie Mellon University in 2004 and was acquired by Google in 2011. At Google he is currently involved in research in face recognition and face understanding to support a variety of products and services. Dr. Schneiderman has also served as research faculty at the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute and he is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Longuet-Higgins Prize for “fundamental contributions in computer vision that have withstood the test of time”. Dr. Schneiderman grew up in Storrs, Connecticut. He received his bachelor's degree with honors from Brown University and his master's and doctorate degrees from Carnegie Mellon University.Host: Dr. Anil Jain |
