History

The Honda Shing Endowed Scholarship / Fellowship in Computer Science was established in 2008 to support promising full-time students who are majoring in computer science.

About Honda Shing

Honda Shing earned Master's and Ph. D. degrees in computer science from Michigan State University in 1988 and 1992, respectively. Upon leaving MSU, he worked at Unisys in San Jose, California for a time before co-founding InterVideo, a successful multimedia software company based in Fremont, California, in 1998. The company's first commercial success came with the introduction of WinDVD, an application for viewing DVDs on personal computers. Dr. Shing seved as the company's chief technology officer in charge of new product and technology development. He received the MSU Computer Science and Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007.

Helping MSU Students Achieve Success 

Being a dedicated Christian, Dr. Shing believes that giving is more blessed than receiving. He credits much of his professional and business success to his academic experience at Michigan State University. He has chosen to give back to his alma mater by providing this Endowment to help those MSU students majoring in computer science who are in need of financial support. In doing so, he wishes to help MSU students achieve the kind of success he was able to accomplish through his college education.
