Jain awarded project from Google

Anil Jain, University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University has been awarded a project from Google, Inc., entitled "User Authentication in Mobile Device Video Stream".

Continuous user authentication with mobile devices is important to maintain the integrity of transactions and data stored on the device and connected cloud accounts. While behavioral (soft) biometrics such as touch and typing patterns have been used in unobtrusive user authentication, the face image of a user provides a stronger clue for authentication. But, face detection and recognition in unconstrained environments (e.g., non-homogeneous illumination) with possibly an uncooperative user (e.g., wearing sunglasses) is a challenging problem. This research project will study both soft biometrics and face recognition in a mobile device video stream scenario.
