Goldman and Punch receive best award in Genetic Algorithms track of GECCO 2014
Brian Goldman, PHD student in Computer Science, and Bill Punch, Associate Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University are coauthors of the paper entitled "Parameter-less Population Pyramid" and received the Best Paper Award in the Genetics Algorithm Track of the Conference on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation (GECCO '14)."The paper is a new approach on the old problem of designing a genetic algorithm that gets rid of the problem of finding appropriate parameter setting. The new algorithm shows very impressive performance on a range of different test problems and in comparison with a number of competing algorithms. Among the strengths of the paper are presenting the algorithm together with a thorough empirical evaluation and theoretical analysis."
