Ross testifies for the Michigan Senate Committee on Energy and Technology
Arun Ross, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University, testified before the Michigan Senate Committee on Energy and Technology on January 21, 2014.Professor Ross testified before the Michigan Senate about the potential use of biometrics in Cyber Security. He focused on the need for effective user-authentication mechanisms in CyberSpace where the goal is to ensure that the financial, health and social data of our constituents are appropriately protected and accessed only by authorized individuals. He discussed the importance of preserving the personal privacy of users accessing the Internet and recommended the use of a multi-factor authentication scheme that judiciously combined biometrics with passwords for effective security. Finally, he enumerated some of the ongoing research work at MSU on the topics of biometric security, liveness detection, cancelable biometrics, visual cryptography and mixing biometrics.
