Hao and Xing Win Award at International Mobile App Competition

iSleep, a mobile app developed by Tian Hao, a Ph.D student under supervision of Dr. Guoliang Xing, has won the Third Best Mobile Application Award at the First Mobile App Competition organized by the 19th Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking (MobiCom) held in Miami during Oct, 2013. iSleep uses built-in smartphone sensors and signal processing algorithms to monitor a set of sleep-related events. iSleep is able to identify body movement, coughing, and snoring, and from these events infers an
individual's sleep quality based on the clinically proven Actigraphy method. The MobiCom Mobile App Competition received more than 50 apps developed by academic research groups and companies from the mobile industry worldwide. The three best apps were selected by a panel of judges comprised of both industrial and academic experts and more than 200 conference attendees. MobiCom is the ACM flagship conference focused on networks, systems, algorithms, and applications that support mobile computers and wireless networks.

The Android version of iSleep can be downloaded at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10208615/ iSleep_MobiComApp.apk . A paper that describes the technologies behind iSleep will be presented at the 11th ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems (SenSys) in Rome, Italy on Nov 11, 2013.
