MSU undergraduate Mairin Chesney wins 3rd place in international ACM Student Research Competition
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the worlds largest computer science organization, has notified Mairin Chesney that she has won third place in the 2013 ACM Student Research Competition, an international contest intended to promote research and find the best Computer Science student-researchers in the world. Mairin is currently an MSU undergraduate double-majoring in Computer Science and Chinese (with a Theatre minor) and is an active member of the BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action. The award is for Mairin's research in the Digital Evolution group on "Harnessing Evolution: The Interaction Between Sexual Recombination and Coevolution in Digital Organisms", advised by PhD student Luis Zaman and Dr. Charles Ofria. Mairin's previous accomplishments are numerous, including a Goldwater Scholarship, a Von Ehr Scholarship, and a National Merit Scholarship, among many others. Mairin will be travel to San Francisco on June 15th where she will receive her award alongside this year's Turing Award recipients.
