Brown receives USDA grant
C. Titus Brown, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, and Paul Coussens, Professor of Animal Sciences, have received a $3M four-year research grant from the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative at the USDA. The title of the project is "Improving Genetic Resistance of Cattle to Johne's disease".
The objective of the project is to develop an understanding of how genetics affects cattle response to paratuberculosis, or Johne's Disease. This is a widespread disease that results in cattle mortality or loss of milk or beef production. The expected results will have an impact on the ability of the cattle industry to diagnose and treat Johne's Disease.
