Liu and Torng awarded NSF grant

Alex Liu, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, and Eric Torng, associate professor and graduate director of computer science and engineering, have been awarded a research grant from the Research in Networking Technology and Systems (NeTS) Program from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled “Algorithmic Approaches to Optimizing Hardware-Based Packet Classification Systems via Equivalent Transformation.”

This project develops advanced algorithms to compress the rule sets used in hardware-based packet classification systems via a novel approach of list-level equivalent transformation. This research effort will yield fundamental building blocks for future scalable high speed routers and firewall
