Jain receives W. Wallace McDowell Award
Anil K. Jain, University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, has been awarded the IEEE Computer Society W. Wallace McDowell Award. Jain received the award on the basis of his "pioneering contributions to theory, technique, and practice of pattern recognition, computer vision, and biometric recognition systems."
The W. Wallace McDowell award is one of the highest technical awards made solely by the IEEE Computer Society. Selection is based on outstanding technical accomplishment and achievement. Jain joins the ranks of previous awardees who include programming pioneer Grace Hopper; FORTRAN developer John Backus; and Timothy Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web.
