This all-University award recognizes scholarly teams working across disciplinary boundaries and is given annually by the Michigan State University Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines.

MATRIX has distinguished itself by building a significant track record of excellence in interdisciplinary research, instruction, and outreach. The Center has assembled interdisciplinary teams of researchers involving almost all of the college at MSU, including the Colleges of Engineering and Social Sciences.

The research projects of MATRIX have impact on two important fronts. Besides making fundamental contributions to a variety of disciplines such as research in digital archiving, the research projects have significant societal impact. Two examples are MATRIX’s online projects Overcoming Apartheid and American Black Journal.

Mark Kornbluh is the founding director of MATRIX. Wayne Dyksen is an associate director of MATRIX.
