MATRIX project featured in MSU Today Magazine

The Center for Humane Arts, Letters, and Social Sciences Online (MATRIX) Quilt Index project is one of four interdisciplinary collaborations featured in the Winter 2007 issue of MSU Today Magazine. In an article titled Team Research, Wayne Dyksen and Mark Kornbluh, professor and chairperson of history, explain how MATRIX links computing, arts, and social science through collaborative projects that are transforming humanities research.

The Quilt Index project is an online digital repository of images and information from public and private quilt collections. MSU’s High Performance Computing Center (HPCC) will be used to analyze the repository, which is expected to grow to over one million images over the next three years. The Quilt Index project is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
