Student organizations elect new officers

CSE’s student groups MSU Student Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), MSU Women In Computing (WIC), and other related organizations, such as Spartasoft, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), have provided MSU students with unique opportunities over the course of the past academic year.




ACM has long sponsored a wide variety of activities, from video game contests to weekly faculty/student doughnut hours. Activities this year included a programming tournament, technical talks, and social activities.

Thank you to ACM advisor Charles Ofria, dedicated members, and outgoing ACM officers James Pita (President), Chris Barott (Vice President), Alan Antonuk (Treasurer), Tom Lavoy (Public Relations), Derek Parks (SEC Rep), and Colin Nemchik (Secretary).

WIC activities this year included workshops, social activities, and an outreach event for the Girl Scouts. Members helped to plan the 2007 Michigan Celebration of Women in Computing and attended the conference. WIC is committed to supporting and promoting women interested in computing fields and is open to anyone interested in science, engineering, or mathematics. Both men and women are welcome to join.

Thank you to WIC advisor Teresa VanderSloot, dedicated members, and outgoing WIC officers April Noren (President), Ke (Coco) Zhang-Miske (Vice President) Kirsten Partyka (Webmaster), Tania Yusaf (Secretary), Kira Johns (Treasurer), and Katie Simonds (SEC Representative).
